Mercado Bitcoin is unleashing over $200 million in real-world asset tokenization on XRPL, igniting a bold expansion into global finance across South America and Europe.
Ripple and Mercado Bitcoin Join Forces to Scale Global Finance on XRPL
Ripple revealed on July 4 that digital asset platform Mercado Bitcoin (MB) announced last week its plans to “tokenize more than $200 million in permissioned real-world assets (RWAs), including fixed income and equity income instruments, on the XRP Ledger (XRPL),” as part of an international strategy to widen access to blockchain-based financial products. Mercado Bitcoin stated:
The initiative is one of the largest tokenization efforts by a Latin American institution on the XRPL and a strategic move in MB’s international expansion to increase global liquidity and access to regulated digital products across South America and Europe.
Already one of the world’s top five private credit asset tokenizers, MB has brought over R$1 billion (approximately $185 million) onchain without any defaults. Its infrastructure, integrated with systems used by more than 70 central banks and financial institutions, has been subject to external audits by EY since 2018.
Ripple, a key contributor to the XRPL, is working to bring regulated assets onchain and is supporting MB’s integration with the network, the company said. MB has collaborated with Ripple by using Ripple Payments to facilitate cross-border treasury flows between Brazil and Portugal and by listing RLUSD, a USD-denominated stablecoin, on its exchange.
Ripple’s LATAM Managing Director Silvio Pegado stated:
Mercado Bitcoin’s integration with the XRPL shows how public blockchain infrastructure is being trusted by institutions and is becoming a reliable foundation for bringing regulated financial products to the market.
XRPL has processed more than 3.3 billion transactions, drawing interest from institutional players looking for secure and scalable digital asset infrastructure.
