ICP Chain Fusion Hacker House Bali Sets New Records for Southeast Asia

The ICP Chain Fusion Hacker House Bali, held during Coinfest Asia on August 22nd and 23rd, 2024, has set a new benchmark for in-person hackathons in Southeast Asia. More than 400 tech enthusiasts registered including over 350 Indonesian residents, and 130 developers were carefully chosen to participate in this 48-hour coding marathon. The event was hosted by ICP Hub Indonesia and saw the transformation of over 30 innovative ideas into functional MVPs, highlighting the vibrant creativity and technical strength of Indonesia’s tech scene.

During the Hacker House, developers competed for $15,000 in prizes, while $35,000 was distributed in participation rewards, making it the largest hackathon by developer participation and project submissions ever conducted in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Held at the Ash Pavilion during Coinfest Asia, the event was a significant milestone for blockchain innovation in the region.

Dominic Williams, the Founder and Chief Scientist of the DFINITY Foundation, flew to Bali to inspire and support the hackers, underscoring the importance of the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) in advancing blockchain technology worldwide. The DFINITY Foundation is the major contributor to the Internet Computer.

“This Hacker House has demonstrated the immense potential and innovation present in Indonesia,” said Bruno Calabretta, Hub Leader for ICP Hub Indonesia. “Watching these developers turn their ideas into reality was a truly inspiring experience, and it marks just the beginning for what we can achieve together in the ICP ecosystem.”
