NH Liberty Activists Rally Behind Crypto Innovators, Seek Presidential Pardons

Liberty activists from New Hampshire are urging President Donald Trump to grant clemency to Ross Ulbricht, Ian Freeman, and Roger Ver, three individuals they describe as pioneers of cryptocurrency who have been unjustly targeted by the U.S. legal system.

Free Ian Now Campaign Urges Clemency for Ulbricht, Freeman, and Ver

The plea was made at a press conference organized by the Free Ian Now campaign, where speakers highlighted alleged injustices in their cases. Carla Gericke, former president of the Free State Project, emphasized the need for action. “President Trump, please do the right thing and pardon all three of these crypto-pioneers: Ian Freeman, Ross Ulbricht, and Roger Ver, on Day One,” she said.

Gericke criticized the selective prosecution of Freeman, convicted for running a bitcoin ATM allegedly linked to scams, while mainstream financial executives face no such scrutiny. Eric Brakey, executive director of the Free State Project and a former Maine state senator, echoed Gericke’s sentiments, condemning what he described as “a regime of lawfare” targeting cryptocurrency innovators. Brakey stated:

The war on bitcoin is over, and it is time for the political prisoners to be free.

Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road online marketplace, is serving a double life sentence without parole, a punishment advocates argue is disproportionate to his offenses. Freeman, convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering, is serving a nine-year sentence. Gericke turned her attention to Ver, famously nicknamed “Bitcoin Jesus,” highlighting the ongoing legal battles he confronts, which many view as deeply rooted in political agendas.

Gericke stressed during the speech:

We all know overcharging and over sentencing are totalitarian tools of suppression, but these dirty tactics don’t stop there–Did you know that the IRS raided Ver’s tax lawyers’ offices? No more “attorney-client privilege” for you, for some defendants??? This is the type of thing you’d hear happening in Communist countries and it is very Un-American.

Critics of the political prosecution contend these cases illustrate systemic issues in the federal justice system, including excessive sentencing, overcharging, and inconsistent enforcement. Gericke argued such actions suppress innovation and undermine public trust, calling them “lawfare tactics” used to silence dissent.

The press conference concluded with a direct appeal to Trump. “Mr. President, I stand here today to call for clemency,” Gericke said, comparing Trump’s legal battles to those faced by the three men. “You have personally experienced the weaponization of the legal system—lawfare—used to undermine and discredit.”

The Free Ian Now campaign and its supporters aim to spotlight what they see as a larger pattern of government overreach threatening financial innovation and personal freedoms. Their plea is rooted in a broader mission to preserve civil liberties and foster a culture of innovation.
